Working with early-stage AI startups. Current work: I am currently designing flero.ai, an AI orchestration layer for enterprises that provides complete control and visibility into costs, time, and processes. I lead product and ship code alongside the engineering team every week. I’m also finishing my PhD on user control in AI interfaces. I surveyed 360 users across 46 countries, reviewed research papers from the previous decade of AI UX research, and wrote papers now under peer review at top HCI journals. Findings: people want clarity, refinement tools, and better personalization. Those insights shape everything I design. Right now I’m prototyping these solutions with Claude Code, Cursor, and Figma. Testing them is the next phase of my PhD. Links: My portfolio: tanjaradovanovic.com My inspiration collection: svemir.space My playground: tanjaos.space The product I'm leading product design for: flero.ai Track record: Raised conversions by 23% across 7 e-commerce brands. Built a design system that cut development time by 40%. Designed and tested 50+ landing pages. Led a full website redesign through a complete strategic shift. When leadership changed and the original plan collapsed, I aligned engineering, marketing, and e-commerce around new constraints and shipped. The result was the brand’s first $1,000,000+ sales day. What I bring: I help teams move quickly while staying aligned on what matters. If you’re building an AI product and want to improve user understanding and control, I’m available for contract work and open to the right full-time fit. Link Book a Call Calendly Let's talk about your design challenges. Post 🎓 Just defended my preliminary doctoral research on a $100M opportunity in AI interfaces. What started as curiosity about current AI experience developments has evolved into research of a critical gap in AI interfaces. So grateful to my advisors and the research community that supported this milestone. The Problem: How many times have you tried to get AI to do exactly what you want, only to spend 20 minutes rephrasing the same request? Current AI systems rely primarily on chat interfaces, empty text boxes that provide no guidance on how to use the tool, what it can do, or how to achieve the best results. This isn't an algorithmic problem to be solved with more compute, or better algorithms - it's an interface design problem. My Research: I've completed a 3-phase methodology examining this from every angle: + Systematic review of 70 peer-reviewed papers on AI personalization (currently under review at Q1 HCI journal). + Global survey of 345 users across 46 countries, revealing exactly what control features users want. + Comprehensive audit of contemporary AI tools against 20 Human-AI design guidelines from Microsoft and Google. Key Discovery: Users don't need better AI models; they need structured control mechanisms, personalization transparency, enhanced editing capabilities, and confidence indicators. The solution bridges prompt engineering through a new interface design. Next Phase: Controlled A/B experiments to validate targeted interface solutions that can immediately improve task completion efficiency and user satisfaction. A case study about this design process is in the making. This research will produce an open-source framework with evidence-based guidelines that the industry can implement right away. Calling AI Founders: If you're building AI products and dealing with user adoption challenges, prompting difficulties, or retention issues, I'd love to connect. I'm actively seeking partnerships with founders who want to implement evidence-based interface improvements in their products. Drop me a DM, let's discuss your AI product. #ArtificialIntelligence #UserExperience #ProductDesign #AIInterfaces #HCI #Research #Innovation 80 reactions · 11 comments 80 · 11 comments Post The future of AI interfaces is event-driven. AI agents are increasingly acting on real-time data, making quick, independent decisions. While this leap is powerful, it introduces a significant UX challenge: maintaining user trust. Users must feel confident that the AI will do exactly what's intended, nothing more, nothing less. Even a single unexpected action can undermine trust, no matter how effective the AI might be. As designers, we have a critical role: Transparency is essential: Clearly communicate what the AI is doing and why. Users deserve to understand every decision their agent makes. Provide meaningful control: Let users easily set boundaries and give them straightforward ways to approve or stop actions at any time. Feedback loops matter: Encourage continuous user feedback so the agent learns from the user, not just the other way around. Additionally, we must design interfaces to reduce cognitive load. No more relying solely on chatbox interfaces! We need to invent new interaction patterns that empower users to effortlessly set the AI's tasks without becoming prompt engineers themselves. This will be the heavy lifting: designing interactions that maintain user control without overwhelming them. Designing event-driven AI isn't just about building smarter tech. It's about building trust, safety, and human-centered experiences that users genuinely love. Illustration by: Ibrahim Rayintakath #ai #uxdesign #aiuxdesign 5 reactions 5 Post Here are Microsoft Guidelines for Human-AI Interaction. I’m deep in reviewing AI UX research for my PhD (seriously, drowning in papers 🧠📚), and one study from Microsoft caught my eye: Microsoft’s research team studied AI products, tested them, and found 18 simple rules for making AI actually work for users. Here are 5 quick ones to check your AI against: ✅ Tell users what your AI can do (Don’t make them guess.) ✅ Be honest about mistakes (AI isn’t perfect—own it.) ✅ Help users fix errors easily (Don’t trap them in bad AI decisions.) ✅ Show useful info at the right time (No random interruptions.) ✅ Let users customize AI behavior (Because one size never fits all.) If your AI breaks these rules, people won’t trust it. They’ll ignore it. Or worse—turn it off. I’ll break down all 18 rules in my next posts. But for now—how many does your AI follow? Drop a number in the comments! 👇🚀 The referenced paper is linked in the comment bellow. Super sharp design by the one and only designer/developer/product manager Tanja Radovanović The message is simple: Marketing has an AI tool. Finance has one. HR another. Spend goes up. Output doesn't move. Flero is one platform where AI agents run your operational work end-to-end, across the CRM, inbox, files, and tools you already use. Describe the process. Watch it build, test, and run it. Check out some of the case studies where we've helped people save hundreds of hours a month to manual tasks We're working with a small number of teams right now. Nobody agrees what that is. Companies keep coming to us with the same question: "how do we make our context usable for agents?" The phrasing is always identical. What's underneath it never is. Look closely and it breaks into three very different problems that only look alike from a distance: * Agent's context: what you tell your agent. Its instruction files and conversation history. No company stack behind it. * Institutional knowledge: how your company operates. The docs, chats, notes, and tickets scattered across the apps where work happens. Mostly unstructured. * Systems of record: your operating records. Warehouses, databases, ledgers, CRM, across stacks that were never built to talk to each other. Each builds on the one before. And the tricky part is knowing which one you're actually in. Company size is the usual shortcut, but it lies. A startup automating finance can touch a system of record. Glean sells to big enterprises yet works almost entirely on institutional knowledge. The context and your needs sort you, not your size. The common mistake is getting the level wrong in either direction: overshooting into a full ontology when files and retrieval would have carried you, or undershooting and starving the agent of what it actually needs. Either way the application on top pays for it: too thin and it can't do the job, too heavy and you're maintaining an ontology to answer what a vector search could have handled. Find your level first. Build for it. I wrote up the full map, where Mem0, Zep AI (YC W24), cognee, Glean, Notion, Snowflake, Palantir Technologies, Atlan and ~20 others actually sit, and which problem each one really solves. The internet is dial-up, and you connect to go to chat rooms to chat with your friends and strangers. At that time, to me, technology felt like endless possibility and discovery. I wanted to recreate that feeling, so I made a quick Windows XP site with some of the content I remember my first computer had. Like the RealPlayer with the sheep visualization vibing to Avril Lavigne, or the stress of playing DX Ball, or the iconic aquarium screensaver. This was such a funny little experiment that triggered so many memories. Check it out here: https://tanjaos.space P.S.. Once you connect to the internet, try the chat, it really works! Push a change, see it live, adjust. That feedback loop is fast. It matters especially because we're building for developers, so I'm feeling the friction they feel, which teaches me what actually needs to exist. 1 175 impressions View analytics View analytics Tanja Radovanović • You Senior Product Designer • UX of AI | PhD Candidate 1mo • There's this idea going around that design tools slow things down, that designers should just code and skip the thinking phase. I don't buy it. Yeah, I push PRs now and iterate faster in the product itself. But Figma isn't going anywhere for me. It's where I actually think. It's where I explore messy ideas before they're clean enough for code. The experimentation phase matters. It's simpler than jumping straight into implementation, and it's different from just prompting and generating. I'm learning to do both at once. The workflow is the experiment now. … more 2 198 impressions View analytics View analytics Tanja Radovanović • You Senior Product Designer • UX of AI | PhD Candidate 1mo • For years, the constraint was build capacity. Can we ship it? Do we have time? Now that's basically solved. I can push changes myself, my team moves fast, so the bottleneck shifted completely. It's not "can we build it" anymore. It's "should we build it, and how do we design it properly?" Maggie Appleton talked about this recently in her talk 'One Developer, Two Dozen Agents, Zero Alignment' at the AI Engineer Europe conference (link in the first comment). 'When production is cheap, opportunity cost becomes the real cost. You can’t build everything, and whatever you pick comes at the cost of everything else.' When execution stops being the problem, alignment becomes everything. How aligned are we on what matters? How clear is the thinking before code happens? That's where the real work is now. … more 1 238 impressions View analytics View analytics Tanja Radovanović • You Senior Product Designer • UX of AI | PhD Candidate 2mo • 👏 Strahinja Devic • Following CTO @evermed 2mo • Ne znam kada ćete (ok neki možda i jesu :) ) prihvatiti činjenicu da ljudi em nikada nisu, em nikada neće plaćati za tehnologiju. I PirateBay je bio besplatan, i imao si tamo sve (od muizke, preko filmova do igrica i windows kreka). I onda dodje neki Spotify i kaže daj 10e mesečno za istu stvar i mi svi damo. Jer dva klika i svira. Nema torent, nema seedovanja, nema bonus fajla kod_babe_sve_dzabe_eminem_final_remix_REAL.exe. Netflix isto. Uber isto. Nikome mi tu ne plaćamo jer je jeftinije, nego plaćamo jer je lakše. Jedino bolje od besplatno je jednostavno. I sad gledam AI industriju kako svesno radi sve suprotno od toga... Naprave AI tool. Korisnik otvori i vidi prazan prompt. Gleda u njega. Ne zna šta da pita, kako da pita, koliko konteksta da da. Dobije nazad nešto što liči na odgovor ali nije. Zatvori. Ne vrati se. To je problem. I? A few weeks ago, that felt like crossing a line into engineer territory. But my team gave me access, showed me the safe way to do it, and now? I'm fixing UI things that were annoying me instead of describing them in Figma and hoping someone picks them up. It sounds small, but it changes how I see the product. UX is dead. UI was never alive to begin with; it was just CSS with delusions of grandeur masked as auto-layout. Frontend is dead. Backend is dead. Fullstack was a lie we told ourselves so we could suffer twice as much for the same salary. Figma killed Sketch. AI killed Figma. And somewhere, a guy with a Dribbble account from 2014 is still adding glassmorphism to a weather app, blissfully unaware he's been dead for years. Agile is dead. Waterfall is dead. Whatever your team is doing right now is also dead; you just haven't had the retro to acknowledge it yet. Accessibility is dead. Well, it was never really alive at most companies. More of a ghost that haunts your backlog and occasionally appears during audits. Pixel perfection is dead. Design systems are dead. Your Jira board is dead. That Confluence page nobody reads? Somehow still alive. Thriving, even. Like a cockroach. React is dead. Angular was dead. Vue is dead but in a cool, understated European way. Svelte isn't dead yet, which means give it six months and a Twitter thread. Nuance is dead. You're either an AI evangelist disrupting the paradigm or a dinosaur clinging to your precious "craft." There is no middle ground. The middle ground is also dead. Junior roles are dead. Senior roles are "AI-augmented" now, which is corporate for "do three jobs but with a chatbot." And somewhere, right now, someone is writing a Medium article titled "X Is Dead"; which is the only thing in tech that will never, ever die. Rest in peace, everything. We all had a good run.
